Historical mapping indicates that Roland Run and Thornton Road Tributary follow similar flow paths from Lutherville to Lake Roland. However, most of the channel was likely altered in the 1950s to accommodate development, including housing, infrastructure, utilities, and a ballfield.
Bamboo is an invasive plant that is taking over part of the banks of the Roland Run. Several years ago, the Baltimore County Department of Environment and Sustainability cut down the same bamboo forest. The forest has grown and displacing the natural plants and trees. This is the area the Friends of Roland Run cut down.
